Here's why tougher laws to have the insane who seem violent committed to asylums is not the solution to the problem. This, along with the fact that psychiatrists demonstrably have no idea who might or might not be violent, plus the obvious violation of human rights in locking something up for what you think they might do.
The last thing you want to do, with somebody who really is insane, is to make them feel cornered. They may not understand what is really going on and why, but at that point, powerful instincts take over. Fight or flight.
Hence my argument for purely voluntary committal to a place where no one is likely to feel cornered in any way. In a small, isolated town, if anyone feels the pressure, they can walk off into the woods and be completely free.
