The CBC’s report of Sandy Berger’s plea bargain makes it seem no more than a political ploy by the Republicans.

The CBC reports that Berger says it was all “an honest mistake”—i.e., no wrongdoing involved.
The piece ends with the arch comment “Many Democrats believe that news of the probe was deliberately leaked by Republicans who wanted to distract the public from the Sept. 11 commission report, which was being released days later.”
The story omits, however, interesting points included in the NYT’s coverage—the NYT hardly being a right-wing rag. For example:
“But in the plea agreement reached with prosecutors, he is expected to admit that he intentionally removed copies of five classified documents, destroyed three and misled staff members at the National Archives when confronted about it, according to an associate of Mr. Berger's ….”
This on multiple occasions.
And no word from the CBC on Berger’s security clearance being revoked.
