Orthodox sources generally insist that they are large and perhaps insurmountable.

The critical issue is that the Orthodox hold that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father alone. Catholics hold that he proceeds from the Father and the Son. The Orthodox recognize the Pope as in some sense the head of the Christian Church, but do not accept, as do Catholics, papal infallibility.

Other apparent disagreements are quite possibly only matters of terminology, at least in my opinion.

Catholics would argue that the Orthodox churches are flawed primarily in one way only: that they are separate from the great body of the Church, which is in communion with Rome, as well as from each other. This violates the requirement in the Creed for the church to be “catholic,’ that is, universal.

OdSteve Roneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10594350543441265186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8287065.post-85676941020559429782007-07-30T13:11:00.000-04:002007-07-30T13:11:00.000-04:00Roney - I quite agree that it should be self-evide...Roney - I quite agree that it should be self-evident that there is one Church. One thing that I have failed to educate myself on properly is the distinction between the claims of the Orthodox Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church. Could you elucidate?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
